According to the police report, the man came to a party in the 2800 block of West Bridge Street just before midnight Aug. 22, and unexpectedly began punching the woman.
Another woman at the party knew the man carried a gun in his hip holster and tried to grab it, to prevent him from using it, according to the report. When she did, it fell out of the holster, and the woman picked it up and kept it from its owner.
Police later retrieved the gun in a nearby vehicle.
The man whom police say caused the disturbance was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed, battery and obstructing after he told police there was no weapon at the fight.
The victim of the assault was arrested later that night for
disorderly conduct when she began yelling at a group of women while being
interviewed by a Greenfield police officer.
