Police & Fire Commission Considers Psych Exams for Interim Chiefs

The commission decides against naming Jon Cohn or Brad Wentlandt as permanent chiefs, for now.

The Greenfield Police and Fire Commission did not move on hiring either Interim Fire Chief Jon Cohn or Interim Police Chief Brad Wentlandt as permanent replacements to their predecessors.

Instead, the commissioners will weigh the costs and benefits of psychological exams for both candidates before making a decision.

Dennis Clark, the commission chair, suggested both candidates undergo the exams at the Police and Fire Commission meeting Monday at the Law Enforcement Center, a suggestion agreed upon by commissioners Bob Selin, Nancy Kostecki and Kelly Biever. Commissioner Patsy Cashmore disagreed.

"Now it’s like we’re jagging them around, playing politics," Cashmore said.

Clark said he will obtain a cost for the exam Tuesday and report back to the commission. If the commissioners agree to go forward with the testing, it is believed the results of that test would be the final hurdle for both Cohn and Wentlandt to clear.
