Police Blotter: 911 Persistence Proves Costly

Maybe this guy should get a phone with bigger buttons. Or maybe a rotary phone is the way to go.

And he certainly shouldn't be hanging out with this guy.

At 2:05 p.m. Nov. 7, a man who told police he was dialing 915 and not 911 was warned about misuse of the emergency number after dialing the latter.

It was the second time in two days the man dialed 911, and police told him he would get a citation if he dialed it again.

Just 29 minutes later, the man, whom police believed was intoxicated, dialed 911 again and was issued a citation.

That and the following incident were included in the Greenfield Police Department log for the week of Nov. 5- 11:

• A 29-year-old man was arrested for second offense operating while intoxicated at the intersection of 76th Street and West Holmes Avenue at 2 a.m. Nov. 5.
• A 12-year-old girl told her parents she saw a man expose himself at the bus stop at 76th Street and Layton Avenue sometime before 9 a.m. Nov. 5.
• A 35-year-old man was arrested for carrying a concealed knife after a witness told police they saw him take out the knife at the bus stop at the corner of 76th Street and Layton Avenue sometime before 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5.
• A man in the 4800 block of South 96th Street reported his garage was entered and tools were taken sometime before 3 p.m. Nov. 5.
• A 40-year-old man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after witnesses saw him pushing his Cadillac into the McDonald’s parking lot on South 27th Street with the airbags deployed and the horn continuously sounding at 9 p.m. Nov. 5.
• Three political signs were damaged in the 3500 block of West Kimberly Avenue sometime before 8:15 a.m. Nov. 7.
• Two male juveniles were witnessed breaking the driver’s door window and cracked the windshield of a Ford F150 pickup truck in the 7300 block of West Southridge Drive at 8 p.m. Nov. 7. The damage was believed to be caused by a BB gun.
• A resident in the 3600 block of South 33rd Street reported copper piping was missing from his basement after someone entered the home between 3:30 p.m. Nov. 6 and noon Nov. 9.
• During a traffic stop in the 4600 block of South 27th Street, a 23-year-old man was arrested for possession of Schedule II narcotics at 12:35 p.m. Nov. 10.
