Suspected Drunk Driver Thrown Through Van Window

A 55-year-old Greenfield man was ejected through a closed passenger-side front window during a two-car accident at the intersection of Loomis Road and Layton Avenue on Thursday, April 12.

A 55-year-old Greenfield man was ejected through a closed passenger-side front window during a two-car accident at the intersection of Loomis Road and Layton Avenue at approximately 9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12.

The man, who has since been treated and released from Froedtert Hospital, was arrested for allegedly operating while intoxicated, according to the report. If charged and convicted, it would be his second offense.

According to the report, the suspect crashed his 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager minivan into a 2008 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck driven by a 56-year-old man. The driver of the truck was traveling westbound on Loomis Road through the Layton Avenue intersection when the suspect’s minivan allegedly ran a red light while heading west on Layton Avenue.

The minivan hit the truck with enough force that it projected the minivan’s driver through the closed passenger-side window and to the pavement near the vehicles. When police arrived at the scene, the suspect was bleeding from his head and feet and smelled of alcohol.

The suspect, who has a previous drunk-driving conviction from 2007, had not yet been charged as of noon Tuesday.

The driver of the truck did not suffer any injuries. Both vehicles suffered substantial damage.
