Thief Leaves Odd Momento When Stealing Fire Pit

Whether the item was an attempt to be clever or apologetic remains to be seen.

It wasn't exactly a ransom note, nor was it a thank-you note.

But maybe it was hybrid of the two.

A Greenfield man called police to his residence in the 4600 block of South 47th Street at approximately 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, to report his 26-inch black, metal folding fire bowl had been taken from his yard between 10 p.m. June 15 and 10:45 a.m. that morning.

According to the report, the pit had been sitting on top of a stone fire pit when he last saw it. In its place Saturday morning? A drawing of the fire pit held down by a rock.

Both the homeowner and police searched the surrounding area for the fire pit, valued at approximately $30, without success.
