Concealed Carry Ordinances, if They Come, Will Likely Trickle In

Few municipalities are rushing to make decisions regarding weapons in government buildings.

Those expecting Greenfield and officials from other cities to act fast while deciding whether to draft ordinances that relate to the conceal carry law are in for a big disappointment.

According to a story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, just a few municipalities in the area are drafting ordinances that ban conceal carried weapons from government buildings, while only one - Hartford - has announced it will do no such thing.

Among those considering banning weapons from government buildings when the conceal carry law goes into effect Nov. 1 are , and Port Washington, according to the story.

The only formal conversation Greenfield has had about concealed carry policy came from the , which is an independently governed entity.

"After brief discussion, a motion to amend (library) policy to include specific language prohibiting weapons whether visible or concealed, was tabled pending further study and consultation with other city departments and legal opinions," Library director Sheila O'Brien said in an email to Greenfield Patch.
