Mayor Michael Neitzke to Run Unopposed in April Election

No candidates emerged after Alderwoman Linda Lubotsky pulled out of the race.

Barring a write-in campaign, incumbent Mayor Michael Neitzke will be unopposed in his bid for a third four-year term.

Only Neitzke filed the necessary paperwork to run for mayor in April. The deadline to file for candidacy was 5 p.m. Jan. 2.

"It’s an honor for me to serve the city that I grew up in and raise my family in," Neitzke said in an email to Patch just before the filing deadline. "Whether or not someone enters the race, or re-enters the race, I’ll continue to do the best that I can for the city. I can’t really worry about that stuff."

First District Alderwoman Linda Lubotsky had initiated the paperwork process for candidates last month but pulled out of the race two days later. She then took a few shots at Neitzke and said there was no doubt in her mind she would have won.

Neitzke was a city alderman for seven years before being elected mayor in 2005, when he defeated Timothy Seider. He defeated Seider, who was the mayor for 10 years — the second-longest tenure in city history — again in 2009.

The city’s mayor will make $77,969, with an additional $6,000 in stipends for expenses and auto allowance, effective April 17.

Approx 84,000 a yr for what? Are you going to every be in city hall this term? What are your plans to lower our taxes and stop giving out huge raises? I also believe Lubotsky would have been a much better Mayor for our city, she at least has a clue whats really going on!!

I like the mayor and consider him fairly centrist. God knows we could use a few more politicians like that! Keep up the good work.

Mike has done a fine job as mayor. I am glad that he will be able to continue to serve our city in the fair and even handed manner that has been the hallmark of his tenure.

Must be a cheap campaign when nobody runs against you.

You know Tom - you seem to defend her pretty well - if you are not her - are you living in her house? Robert is the one coming up with sound facts to back up his statements. Your sounding like a spoiled little jealous person.

seeing that mr seaten is so dissatisfied, you would have thought that he would have put his hat in the race. I would still vote for Mayor Neitzke,

Mike aka( carnival worker) Clearly you and Robert are the same sarcastic piece of crap human! These attacks on another elected official need to stop! Perhaps you should be practicing law since you are an atty??? But why would you? You might have to show up to do something! Why are you so focused on another person, when you really should be taking a long look at yourself buddy!
David Cotey January 07, 2013 at 08:59 PM
OK Tom and Robert, I don't really know who you are, but let's stick to the issues and leave the name-calling behind. Not sure what, if anything, it is accomplishing.
Michael Neitzke January 07, 2013 at 11:20 PM
While I'll regret even responding to a debate among imaginary bloggers, I can, for the record, say that I am not "Robert" and have no idea who it is. If I am going to write something, I'll use my name. I can also say with certainty that I am not the person who ends each sentence with exclamation points or question marks. In the thousands of emails that I've received over the years, I can think of only one person that writes in that style (and it isn't someone named "tom").
Robert Hansen January 08, 2013 at 04:46 AM
That sure turned into an interesting thread. Thank god "tom" didn't throw his/her hat into the ring. Congratulations Michael, keep up the good work.
