Three Common Council Seats Will be up for Grabs

Alderpersons Pam Akers, Karl Kastner and Shirley Saryan all have expiring terms.

Three Β aldermanic seats will be available in the upcoming Spring 2012 election.

How many of them are contested remain to be seen.

Incumbent Karl Kastner, the third district's alderman since 2000, confirmed with Greenfield Patch he will run again.

β€œI still have a passion and desire to serve as alderman,” Kastner said in an email.

Fifth District Alderwoman Shirley Saryan, also confirmed she will seek re-election in an email Tuesday. She has been an alderwoman since 2005.

A third incumbent, Alderwomen Pam Akers, who has represented the fourth district since 2009, did not immediately responded to an email from Greenfield Patch regarding her candidacy.

Candidates can begin circulating nomination papers Thursday, Dec. 1, and must obtain 20-40 signatures to run.

The annual salary for an alderperson is $6,300. Terms are for three years.

All candidates have until 5 p.m. Jan. 3, to file their election paperwork.
