Greenfield School Board President Discusses Election Win

Bailey said his fiscal decisions during his first term helped him receive enough votes to get reelected.

Bruce Bailey believes the fiscal restraint he showed in his first term on the Greenfield School Board is what got him reelected Tuesday.

During his first term Bailey voted against some Greenfield School District administrators receiving a 4.4 percent pay increase and also was against the district building a new administrative building prior to the old one being sold.

“I’m pleased that the voters voted for me and supported me,” said Bailey, who managed 29.5 percent of the vote (3,141 votes) in the four-person race. “I think the taxpayers of Greenfield, they’ll support the schools but you have to show that you’re spending the money wisely.

“People of Greenfield want good schools. They build us a new school. They built us a new pool. But they don’t want big raises, (or) us building new buildings like the new administrative center when you have a perfectly good one. That’s why they supported me.”

Bailey, the board president, will be joined by former board president Pam Sierzchulski, who finished second Tuesday with 2,743 votes, or 25.8 percent. She will replace incumbent Donald Almquist (2,301; 21.6%).

Fire Chief Russ Spahn was third (2301; 23.1%).

Bailey said he hopes the School Board can keep the district moving forward even with tough times on the horizon with regards to Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposal.

“We have to maintain the programs we have,” Bailey said. “We have to maintain what the district is trying to accomplish, and that is improving our test scores and maintaining the programs we’ve put in place to improve their education.”
