Whitnall Middle School Recognized for Behavior Improvement Initiative

The school implemented Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports prior to the 2012-13 school year.

Whitnall Middle School has been recognized as a school of merit by the state’s Department of Public Instruction for its efforts in implementing and executing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

PBIS is a proactive approach by students, staff and administration designed to establish safer and more effective schools.

The school began PBIS implementation at the start of the 2012-13 season and saw the benefits right away as reports of fights, suspensions, harassment and other aggression-based incidents declined.

Approximately 47 percent of all Wisconsin public schools use PBIS. Whitnall Middle School is one of 146 schools statewide to be recognized as a school of merit.

Last spring Edgewood Elementary School of the Greenfield School District was recognized is the same way.
