Daily Sports Beat: Falcons Shut Out Foe in First Quarter; Hawks' Winning Streak Ends

Falcons outscore their nonconference opponent, 21-0, en route to their 12th win of the season.

A 21-0 first-quarter advantage paved the way for the Whitnall boys basketball team in a 63-44 nonconference home victory over Waterford on Tuesday.

Four Falcons finished with double-digit points. Stephen Pelkofer led all players with 15 followed by Geoff Wisalowski and Danny Weymier, who had 12 each, and Aaron Broadwater, who chipped in 10.

The win comes for the Falcons, who improved to 12-6 overall, right before a huge Woodland Conference showdown with South Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Whitnall. The Falcons are tied for first with New Berlin Eisenhower in the Black Division at 10-3 while the Rockets are one game back at 9-4.

Greenfield had a shot blocked with 30 seconds, missed a contested layup with 15 seconds and missed a 12-foot jumper with eight seconds to go.

“We did have a couple shots to win it, but just didn’t convert,” Greenfield coach Rob Graetz said. “The girls are doing a good job taking care of the basketball and making some excellent passes.

“We had some lapses defensively that came back to get us late and our free throws throughout the game hurt us as well.”

The Hawks (7-10 overall) got 13 points from Kristina Vidakovich and 12 from Amber Polachek.

Brookfield East’s Laura Burbach led all players with 25.
