Falcons Unable to Extend Win Streak

After sweeping two games from Greenfield, Whitnall falls short against New Berlin West.

The Whitnall Falcons baseball team was unable to build on the good vibes createdTuesday and Wednesday.

The Falcons committed multiple errors in a 7-2 loss at New Berlin West on Thursday, dropping to 13-9 overall and 8-5 in the Woodland Conference.

"Our defense did not help our pitching at all," Whitnall coach Brian Johnsen said. "Very disappointing."

Whitnall owned a 2-0 lead after the top of the second inning on RBI hits by Josh Serio in the first inning and Sam Mentkowski in the second, but the advantage evaporated quickly.

Three Whitnall errors led to a New Berlin West run in the second. The Vikings added two runs in the third and four in the fourth thanks to a two-run Whitnall error.

Mentkowski, Geoff Wisialowski and Danny Weymier had two hits each.

In other news, it was announced that the Falcons, seeded third, would host sixth-seeded Mukwonago at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, in a WIAA regional final.

The winner will play either second-seeded Muskego or seventh-seeded Waukesha North at 3 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Waukesha West in a sectional semifinal. The sectional final is 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Waukesha West is the sectional's top seed.
