Hawks, Falcons Looking for First Wins of 2013 Football Season

Greenfield and Whitnall play each other at 7 p.m. Friday, at Greenfield High School in the first Woodland Conference game of the season.

Last fall, when the Greenfield Hustlin’ Hawks and Whitnall Falcons met in the third week of the WIAA football season, a lot was on the line.

The Falcons were opening their brand new $6.5 million Falcon Field against its crosstown rival in the Woodland Conference season-opener.

And while the pomp and circumstance of last year’s stadium-opening won’t be present when the teams meet again Friday, no less is at stake this time around.

The defending Woodland East tri-champ Falcons, who one last year’s battle, 19-6, and the Hawks are both looking for their first wins of the season after suffering a pair of nonconference losses to kick off their 2013 campaigns.

This year’s showdown is at Greenfield High School at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Falcons lost their Week 2 game, 14-7, to New Berlin Eisenhower, while the Hawks lost to Pius, 25-13.
