High School Football Practice Begins Today

The Hustlin' Hawks and Falcons will be on the field this afternoon.

The Wisconsin high school football season officially gets underway today as teams across the state, including Greenfield and Whitnall, hold their first summer practices.

Whitnall coach Rob Lebeouf and the Falcons are expected to hit the practice field at 3:30 p.m. Greenfield coach and high school athletic director Scott Otto said his team will be on the field at approximately 4:30 p.m. after watching films and weight training.

The Falcons went 4-6 a year ago and lost to Franklin in the first round of the WIAA playoffs, Whitnall's third straight postseason appearance.

Greenfield snapped a 15-game losing streak by going 3-6 in its first season under Otto last fall, but failed to make the playoffs for the eighth straight season dating back to 2002. The Hawks appear poised to end that drought with , leading the way.

The Falcons play their first three games on the road this season, including the season opener at Germantown at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19.

The Hawks also open the season with three road games. Their season opener is at Waukesha North at 7 p.m. Aug. 19.
