Six Hawks Survive Wrestling Regional

They'll compete in WIAA sectional at Waukesha West at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.

Two Hustlin’ Hawks wrestlers were runners-up at the WIAA regional at Greenfield High School on Saturday.

Dylan Kumbera (20-22) scored a pair of victories at 126 pounds, including a 3-1 win over Nate Arquinego of Mukwonago in the second-place match.

Kumbera also beat Waterford’s Nick Lancaster, 7-1, in a quarterfinal, before getting edged by Whitnall’s Blake Leslie, 2-0, in the semifinals.

Greenfield’s 285-pounder Alex Morton (18-13) was also the runner-up in his respective weight class. Morton lost to Milwaukee Hamilton’s Martin Flemming, 10-3, in the final after scoring  a 3-1 semifinal win over New Berlin’s Ben Clark and a first-round bye.

The top four placewinners at each weight class advanced to the WIAA sectional, to be held at Waukesha West at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.

Greenfield’s Tyler Dorfner (26-14) was third with two wins at 152. Thomas Friedbacher (26-14) at 145, Chad Karges (12-19) at 182 and Matt Braatz (21-16) at 195 all placed fourth for the Hawks.

Greenfield finished sixth in the team standings with 102 points, just behind Woodland rival Greendale/St. Thomas More’s 102.
