Three Greenfield Cross Country Runners Earn Conference Honors

Their efforts helped Greenfield to a seventh-place tie Friday at Grant Park in South Milwaukee.

The Greenfield cross country team accomplished some no other in the school's history had done in more than two decades.

For the first time in more than 25 years, three varsity boys earned all-conference honors at Friday's Woodland Conference Meet at Grant Park in South Milwaukee, leading the Hustlin' Hawks to a seventh-place tie.

Greenfield's Casey Sabinash finished in 16 minutes, 56 seconds, Andy Sabinash in 17:01 and Tom Friedbacher in 17:14, to seize all-conference recognition. They were followed by teammates Quinton Kufahl (17:51) and Cody Hagfor (18:44).

"With perfect running conditions and a fast course, 21 members of the boys and girls teams achieved their personal-best runs for the season," Greenfield coach Ernie Rosenthal said.

In addition to the varsity boys solid performance, the jayvee boys finished second only to powerhouse Shorewood as Dylan Kumbera ran the course in 18:29.

The Greenfield varsity team was 10th and the jayvee girls were eighth. The varsity was without top runner Keely Hanley, who was out with a foot injury and will miss Saturday's sectional run at Washington Park.
